Physical
Medicine & Rehabilitation/Pain Management
Physiatry is the medical specialty of Physical Medicine
& Rehabilitation. Physiatrists (fizz-eye'-uh-trists
or fizz-ee-a'-trists) are specialists in diagnosing
and treating acute and chronic pain conditions of the
musculoskeletal system, even when standard diagnostic
tests do not reveal the source of the problem. The Physiatrist
offers a comprehensive, non-surgical approach to pain
and injury. They direct the treatment plan and coordinate
care with physical therapists and other health care
professionals. The result is an individually designed
treatment plan tailored to the patient's specific condition.
Medical Acupuncture is the clinical discipline of
acupuncture as practiced by a physician who is also
trained and licensed in Western biomedicine. Acupuncture
involves the insertion of fine needles and the application
of electrical stimulation at precise points to stimulate
the body to release natural chemicals that relieve pain,
promote relaxation, and improve function.
Manual Medicine
Manual Medicine is hands-on-care to move muscles and
joints through gentle pressure, stretching and resistance
to ease pain, promote healing and increase mobility
Trigger Point Injections
The injection of local anesthetic into taut muscular
bands called trigger points is an effective medical
procedure to deactivate pain that causes headaches,
neck, back and sciatic pain.
